Why would a corrosion engineering firm want to add tank cleaning services?  Simply put, today’s fuels are less stable, allowing microorganisms to flourish in a biofuel enriched environment.  All that is needed is a little water inside of a fuel system and the microbes explode, doubling in population every 20 minutes.  This has created its own form of microbial induced corrosion, or MIC for short,  that does far more damage to a tank in far less time then typical electrolytic corrosion. And don’t feel safe if you’re relying on a fiberglass tank to be immune from MIC attack……. because you’re not.  The microbes will utilize the resin in a fiberglass tank as a food source too.   We have said it many a times… the environment is hostile, and it has gotten a bit more hostel with this newest form of corrosion to be concerned about.
